The Toreadors of Taft Charter High School enter the 2017 ‘Iolani Classic with a long, storied basketball tradition. Last year’s Toreador squad lost in the CIF Division I Quarterfinals to Roosevelt High School, the eventual CIF State Champions. The team finished 27-11 overall, 8-2 in their conference and ranked 14th in the state. That successful group follows previous teams that included NBA players Jordan Farmar, Larry Drew II, Bryce Dejean-Jones and Spencer Dinwiddie.
This year’s group will be led by 5’11 senior point guard Kehei Clark (committed to Virginia) as well as 6’10 junior center Antwan January, who averaged a double-double last season. 6’3 junior guard Makani Whiteside adds to the talented group as Whiteside was an all-state selection last year. Led by veteran Head Coach Derrick Taylor, Taft Charter expects to compete for sectional and state titles this season.
