The Spartans of Maryknoll return to the `Iolani Classic for the fifth time in 2021. The Spartans have found success in previous entries, sporting an 8-4 record in their previous four appearances, including a third place finish in 2017. The 2020-21 season was cancelled, so the Spartans last competitive action came in 2019-20, where they finished 20-7 and fifth in the state of Hawai’i. Head Coach Tony Hoolulu takes the helm for the 2021-22 season, his first year as head coach of the Spartans. 5’7 senior guard Lily Koki is the top returning scorer, along with 6’1 junior center Taimane Faleafine-Auwae, Maryknoll’s top rebounder/shot blocker. 5’3 senior point guard Kira Kaopua adds toughness from the point guard position.

Coach Hoolulu added his thoughts on this year’s squad, “Our team will be young and inexperienced but exciting to watch. After graduating our top three players from last year and with the COVID-19 pandemic cancelling our season, we are excited to see what our young team can accomplish. We always expect to compete at a high level and this year will be no different.”
