The Spartans enter the season following a very successful 2016-17. Maryknoll finished last year 24-3, winning the ILH as well as finishing the year as the HHSAA Division I State Runner-Up. Coach Furtado returns four senior veterans, including 5’3 point guard Rhianne Omori, 5’8 combo guard Chayse Milne, 6’1 center Isabella Cravens and 5’9 forward Moe Notoa. Another key returner joining the senior group is 5’11 junior Kamalu Kamakawiwo’ole.

Coach Furtado detailed the Spartans and the year ahead: “The 2017-18 team returns basically our entire roster. All five starters return and we have seven seniors that have been on our varsity team since their freshmen year. On paper, we have everything we need to continue our success as a program: talent, size, depth and experience. Our challenge will be to continue to work hard and protect against complacency. We cannot take anything for granted. Our league is always very strong and other teams will be coming at us hard. Our players need to accept the challenge ahead of them and work together to accomplish their final goal: a State Championship. Participating in the ‘Iolani Classic has always been a key in preparing our team for league play. We are always appreciative of being invited.”
