The Wildcats of Konawaena join the ‘Iolani Classic field for the eighth time in 2019. Led by Co-Head Coaches Dawnyelle and Bobbie Awa, the Wildcats will bring a talented group to this year’s tournament. Konawaena is no stranger to success, having won the Girls ‘Iolani Classic in both 2011 and 2016. The Wildcats are continually one of the tops girls basketball programs in the state of Hawai`i and have won nine HHSAA Division I State Championships from 2004-2019.
This year’s team will be led by senior standout Caiyle Kaupu (signed with UC Irvine) and sophomore scoring leader, Kaliana Salazar Harrell. The coaches talked about this year’s team: “We are looking forward to an exciting season. We want to challenge ourselves to become better every day and bring the title back home.”
