The Raiders enter their namesake tournament for the 34th time in 2017. ‘Iolani heads into the 2017-18 season after a very competitive season in 2016-17. ‘Iolani finished last year in second place in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu and fourth in the HHSAA Division I State Tournament.

The Raiders graduated some impressive performers last season, but return a strong group as well. 5’9 senior guard Justin Genovia is the leading returning scorer, while 6’4 senior forward Cole Hogland (signed with Univ. of Hawai‘i, Men’s Volleyball) adds an athletic inside presence. Juniors Kawika Lee and Noah Bumanglag add crucial experience to the group. Freshman forward Shayden Molina will be counted on to add strength and athleticism up front for ‘Iolani. Coach Shimamoto explained the expectations for the upcoming season succinctly: “We expect to be competitive and fight for a berth to the state tournament.”
