The Sabers of Campbell High School enter this year’s ‘Iolani Classic for the second time in school history. Campbell’s first appearance in the tournament was in 2006, a tournament won by LeFlore High School (Alabama). The team from Ewa Beach is coming off a strong 2017-18 season, finishing the year in third place in the Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA). The Sabers will count on some key returners and some new impact players to help them this year. Returning seniors 6’3 Mitchell Williams (12 ppg, 8 rpg) and 6’0 Robert Hutchison (9ppg, 5 rpg) are expected to flourish this season, with the addition of junior post player 6’1 Kaimana Preza and senior point guard 5’9 Makana Ortiz being key factors as well.
Led by Head Coach Wyatt Tau, the group is excited. Coach Lau commented: “We’re expecting to start strong and finish strong. Last year we started strong, going 8-0, but we didn’t finish strong. We ended up losing our last three games. Our expectations going into this year are very high.”
