The Monarchs of Archbishop Mitty return to the `Iolani Classic after winning the tournament in their last appearance in 2016, led by standout Haley Jones (Stanford). Coach Sue Phillips has served in the head coach role for the Monarchs for 28 years. Coach Phillips has gone 731-133 over that time period. Archbishop Mitty had a 13-2 record in a COVID-shortened 2020-21 season and graduated 7 seniors last year. This year’s team will be led by a talented group, including senior guards, Siena Guttadauro, Noemie Bariteau and Makayla Moore. All three will be playing NCAA Division I next season. Talented sophomore guard, Morgan Cheli along with junior forward Maya Hernandez will also be counted on to play key roles.

Coach Phillips is excited for the year. “We have high expectations for this year: win the West Catholic Athletic League & the Open Division Central Coast Section; vie for an Open Division NorCal Championship and earn a birth to play for an Open Division CIF State Title. In 2019-20, we won the Open Division NorCal Title and earned a birth to the Open state title game, but the state finals were cancelled due to the pandemic.”
